Portfolio Project: Month-End Books for a Retail Trader
How it is checked: Final assessment: 90-minute unseen month-end task plus 10-minute viva within the existing guided hours. Pass requires at least 70/100 overall and 18/25 for bank reconciliation; unresolved material differences require correction and reassessment. Quizzes cannot compensate for an unsuccessful practical. Trainer uses a sealed variant with different amounts and references, a checked answer key and the same rubric.
- Then
Business Accounting
Deeper practice: full sets of books, reconciliations and statements.
Portfolio Project: Three-month SME portfolio
How it is checked: A four-hour practical on a fresh month-end dataset: Excel matching and payables or receivables exceptions (60 minutes), adjustments and reports (60), payroll and TDS working papers (45), cash forecast and management note (45) and tie-outs and evidence (30). Recommended completion: 70% overall, 70% in each independent stage, 85% attendance and all required outputs. Independent final check: A signed competency matrix links prior Tally evidence to the Business Accounting requirements; tax assumptions and effective dates accompany each answer sheet. Proposed completion: 70% overall and 70% in the portfolio practical; critical accuracy, permission and privacy failures require correction and observed reassessment. This policy needs academic approval before use for awards.
- Optional
Advanced Excel + Power BI
Excel and reporting skills that accounts work uses every day.
Portfolio Project: Validated sales and finance dashboard
How it is checked: Portfolio project output: Interactive business dashboard with validated measures and executive insights. Completion is subject to the course-specific proposed policy below; practical evidence is mandatory. Rubric focus: SQL/DAX/Excel checks + BI project rubric. Institute certificate only; external/vendor certification separate. Independent final check: Learner produces the same subject totals before and after reshaping and can explain why a duplicated join key increases rows. Proposed completion: 70% overall and 70% in the portfolio practical; critical accuracy, permission and privacy failures require correction and observed reassessment. This policy needs academic approval before use for awards.
- Optional
AI for Finance and Accounting
Using AI in finance work, with checks.
Portfolio Project: Month-end finance automation pack
How it is checked: Practical labs use synthetic invoices, bank statements and ledgers; marks depend on figures verified against source, not on AI output.
